Car Scheme
Community Car Scheme
The Service
The Community Car Scheme was set up as a project of Northallerton and District Voluntary Service Association to help people who are unable to access public transport because they are disadvantaged by a disability or age.

Volunteering as a Community Car Scheme Driver
The scheme is operated by a team of volunteer drivers and we always need people to help us. Volunteers do not have to commit to any particular day or time, they must own their own vehicle and must be available to offer regular or occasional lifts to people living in the Northallerton area - you choose when and where you want to volunteer!
We pay a mileage allowance to all volunteer drivers to cover petrol and maintanance costs. This is currently 40 pence per mile paid from the volunteer’s home for the complete journey. We provide public liability insurance for you whilst carrying out transport in association with our organisation. We do ask that you notify your insurance company to advise them that you will be undertaking voluntary work but this should not result in any excess premiums being payable.
Information Pack
An information pack is available from the Volunteer Centre. You will be asked to complete a registration form and also provide 2 references. This type of voluntary work is subject to a Criminal Records Bureau check being carried out. Don’t worry we will assist you with the process. We also provide training prior to you commencing your role so you will be fully prepared.
We look forward to hearing from you soon.
